A Few of My Charleston Fashion Week Pieces

Last Day of Shows, Pre-Parties and Final Party!

So, its been 8 days of steaming dresses, meeting fabulous people and running back and forth across King Street. Today I'm going to the downtown Marriot to meet with the directors of Charlotte Fashion Week. They contacted me about a week before Charleston Fashion Week, and they came down to meet with a few of the designers from that show.

Later is the closing party for Charleston Fashion Week, where I would be beside myself to meet some of the panel of judges from CFW. Also, I've become pretty fond of a few other designers from the show, so I'm looking forward to hanging out with them in a lower-key environment.

Final showdown is tonight! What you may not know is that Stephanie Mejia is now also a finalist. The judges called her and said they'd like her to come back as a finalist, as well. She's awesome, and totally deserves it. I lent her my sewing bag, kit, and machine to finish any details before tonight.

And, the night will be topped off with the final CFW after party. Lucky for me; Emily, Jim, Daniel, Bonnie and Will (a selection of my favorite people in life) are going to come with! Jim is hilarious, he has a knack for attracting the press to take pics. Thanks Jim!

Stay tuned for tons of pics and updates!

Wednesday on the Beach!

Jim, Emily, Nene, Katie and I ventured to Sullivan's Island. The wind was too serious to actually lay out, but we did manage to grab a beer and chase some birds.

Winner

Veritee Hill was the winner of today! I will upload my video of the runway in the morning.

Woot!

Heading over to the Tents!

I'm heading over to meet with press, models, and everyone else behind the scenes. I'll have pics, videos and info on who tonights finalist is around midnight!

4:48am

I was hoping that I wouldn't wake up in the middle of the night; and, here I am. Falling asleep at 11:30 last night was a challenge. There was one point where I almost drifted-off to sleep, but, then I woke back up to my heart beating. I'm basically just worrying about anything and everything right now. I feel like I saw a lot of props in last years show (in online research.) So, here I am wondering if I should have brought some sort of props for the models. I'm not really into that though, and the dresses are so intense that it would probably be over the top.

Anyways, its almost like I can't go back to sleep because I don't want to miss a minute of this experience. In a few hours I'm off to the airport to get Emily, then to the fabric store, to a lingerie shop, tweaking anything that may need a thread trimmed, attempting to tame the hair (impossible?) and off to the show. I'm worried that if I don't take advantage of this quiet moment I'll miss it and then this will all be over.

I really miss Misu. Living alone for 9 years with a blind cat = I really love that guy. I was just wondering if he knows how long I've been gone. But, then I decided that hes a cat, so he probably just thinks I'm in the bathroom or something.

Monday Night Family Dinner at Becky's

Night before the show!

Tonight we had a family dinner party (of sorts!) at my cousin Becky's house. Pictured is my cousin Liz, her husband Justin, their cousin, my sister-in-law Jessica and my brother Thomas. I was so exhausted by the time I got there that I walked in the door and cried; it was kind of embarrassing. Today and tonight were the longest hours I've felt in a long time. I'm so nervous, excited and anxious to see how tomorrow night turns out. On one hand, its beyond thrilling to be here in any manner; and, on the other hand, I am so hopeful to be a finalist and go on to Saturday night.
We shall see! Wish me luck :)

Tuesday March 22, 8pm

Tomorrow my show is going on first to launch Charleston Fashion Week! The front row consists of some pretty amazing people; to name a few:

Fern Mallis: Creator of New York Fashion Week
Anne Slowley: ELLE Magazine fashion news director
Jamie Bryant: Costume designer for Mad Men

I AM SO EXCITED!

Model Report!

Ok, I got every dress to fit a model! Very exciting. So, the dress order is established... I have 8 pieces going out on tomorrow night. If I'm a finalist I show all 12 on Saturday. I was so glad that I tried to get one dress to fit each model yesterday because the models definitely didn't fit as well today.

I think the hardest thing I've done today was deciding which were going to be the first 8. Ultimately, I chose the 8 dresses that fit the best.  Attached are a few pics from outside the set-up tent. No pics allowed inside due to copyright laws.

Out-of-Town Model Fitting: 10am

I just woke up and in a few minutes I'm going to carry my 12 dresses and dress rack back across the street to the fitting tent in Marion Square. Yesterday I met with about 10 of the in-town models; today i'll meet the 8 out of town models. I'm nervous that 2 of the dresses may be too small... that would mean that the rest of today was spent sewing.

Last night we had a rooftop party at The Restoration where many of the designers had our first chance to meet one another. I'd have taken pics, but we weren't allowed to unless we had a press pass.

More soon!

First Night in Charleston

I just arrived in Charleston, the arrival was rich with childhood memories. My mom's family is from  Charleston, so each street I passed on the way to my cousin Becky's house had certain memories attached. I remember childhood on Beaufain street with my Aunt Rosemary, Meeting Street, my mom's childhood house on Bull Street, moving my brother into his dorm his freshman year at College of Charleston, and so much more. Can't forget Mt. Pleasant and Folly beach. Summers in Kiawah Island. We've always come to Charleston multiple times a year. Its definitely scary to know that the show is here, and so is my mom's side of the family. I hope I can deliver.

I applied to Charleston Fashion Week as a way to show my family who I am.

Becky isn't home right now, so I came into her amazing downtown Charleston home all alone. When I went to my guest room there was a fan of Charleston Magazines across the bed. Aside from grabbing a Corona, the first thing I did was look at every page of the magazine. I am overwhelmed by the fashion talent presented in Char Mag. http://www.charlestonmag.com/

Tomorrow morning is my first fitting for the 18 models I picked about a month ago. I'll post pics of that, and everything else. Stay tuned.
